Leven Golfing Society, originally laid down in 1846 as a 9 hole layout, is one of the world’s oldest golf clubs.
Leven was extended to 18 holes in 1868, and to mark the opening, an inaugural match was staged, which was won by Young Tom Morris.
Nine of the old holes now belong to the reconstituted Leven, the other nine to Lundin Links. Today’s Leven measures 6,506 yards from the medal tees, 6,250 from yellows; par 71.
Golf Monthly has described the older parts of Leven Links as being:
..one of the best stands of bents and fescues in Scotland – the place in summer to put away the solid ball, leave the wedge in the locker room and hone your chip and run approaches because this is where the real game is played.
Leven Links has hosted many national and international competitions as well as hosting local final qualifying for the Open Championship in 1978, 1984, 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005.
