Almenara Golf Club, Sotogrande

Almenara, located at the very top of Sotogrande Alto, is a 27 hole golf complex that belongs to NH Almenara Hotel.

Part of the Sotogrande urbanisation which includes fine courses such as Valderrama, La Reserva and Real Sotogrande it offers great golf value similar to La Canada.

The course designer is Dave Thomas, who laid down a marker in the area with his design of San Roque Old Course.

  • Los Pinos: 3,169m off whites.
  • Los Alcornoques: 2,946m
  • Los Lagos: 3,108m

3 x 9 hole loops Los Pinos (Pines), Los Alcornoques (Cork Oaks) and Los Lagos (Lakes) offer a variety of golfing experiences with, as their names suggest, mature pine and oak trees in abundance and water to the fore on Lagos and Alcornoques.

All three courses are of a similar nature – hilly and requiring strategy and positional accuracy over length – so you won’t be disappointed with whichever two you play to make up your par 72, 18 holes.

Although all loops start and finish near the clubhouse the finishing holes are all uphill and there is a fair distance between Los Lagos and the other 2 loops. So, my recommendation is to take a buggy rather than walk.

Relax after your round on the Clubhouse terrace overlooking Los Pinos, affording you terrific views South towards the sea.

There are good, cheap practice facilities nearby, though a car or buggy is required.

Resort courses offering great variety. Consider staying at the onsite hotel for convenience and great stay and play packages.
